Support the small businesses of Downtown KC
As we adjust to the new reality of coronavirus, the Downtown Council encourages you to continue to support your favorite small businesses, even if you can’t visit them personally.
Unlike in a recession, social distancing precautions during a pandemic can cause an almost immediate collapse in in-person services – a direct hit on small businesses and retailers, including restaurants, coffee shops and bars.
“Small-business confidence plunged in March to near its lowest levels in the past seven years, as business owners grappled with the effects of the novel coronavirus on their companies and the broader economy,” The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.
In light of the new pressures that are impacting us all, here are a few suggestions of how we can continue to support Downtown area small businesses and retailers today:
- Contact your favorite Downtown restaurant to arrange for a carryout meal or delivery, and tip generously. See CurbsideKC for a current listing of Kansas City area restaurants offering curbside pickup, delivery or carryout options.
- Shop online or purchase gift cards by phone with Downtown area retailers.
- Purchase tickets now for future performances by the Kansas City Ballet, Kansas City Symphony and Lyric Opera.
- To make a loved one feel less isolated, order a display of fresh flowers or a potted plant from a Downtown florist to be delivered today.
- Reserve your seats now for upcoming shows at Downtown’s grandest venues including the Folly Theater, Kauffman Center, The Midland, Sprint Center or your favorite live music or theatrical venue.
- Think beyond food and drink, and purchase gift cards for local hair and nail salons, gyms and yoga classes.
Above all, make it a priority to take all health and safety precautions you can to protect yourself and others in our community.
