Kansas City Unites Behind Downtown as Home for Royals’ Future
Yesterday, local civic and business leaders joined together in a bold, unified call to action: bring the Kansas City Royals home to Downtown! In a show of solidarity and vision for the city’s future, community leaders, residents, and business owners unveiled a 90×90-foot sign to demonstrate unwavering support for a ballpark in Downtown Kansas City
“This is an opportunity we won’t get again,” said Gib Kerr, chairman of the Downtown Council of Kansas City and a leader in the initiative. “We must fight for it — not just for baseball, but for the future of our city.”
Kansas City stands at a crossroads with the unique opportunity to correct past wrongs of misplacing critical community assets in isolation from other key amenities and neighborhoods. A new Royals stadium in Downtown Kansas City would integrate seamlessly with surrounding neighborhoods and activity centers while simultaneously creating better access to the entire region. The new ballpark would no longer stand alone, separated from communities and amenities, but integrate within the heart of our city, where legacy buildings, businesses, and culture have been built.
Echoing the successful campaign to bring the FIFA World Cup to Kansas City, this effort urges Royals ownership, city officials, county leadership, and state representatives to recognize the unmatched energy, infrastructure, and vibrancy that Downtown Kansas City offers. With more than 80 home games each season, a Downtown stadium would create year-round momentum for local hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues, generating unmatched economic and cultural impact.
This isn’t just a stadium – it’s a statement. It’s about showing the world Kansas City’s colors, passion, and potential. Now is the time for bold leadership and community-wide commitment.
Downtown provides the greatest measurable positive regional impact, economic growth, and improved quality of life for everyone in the Kansas City metroplex. It’s also the location that provides the most benefit to the Royals franchise by delivering positive fan base growth, a superior fan experience, and significantly enhanced team value.
