Downtown PAC scores big with November candidate endorsements
The Downtown Council Political Action Committee (Downtown PAC) scored big in last month’s General Election of Missouri House and Senate representatives.
The Downtown PAC endorsed candidates for 21 Missouri House and Senate seats in the Kansas City region area, and 100% of those candidates were victorious on Nov. 8. See below for a listing of endorsed and victorious candidates.
“It was a clean sweep,” said Jerry Riffel, Chair of the Downtown PAC. “The work of the Downtown PAC is all about identifying the candidates who are most committed to creating an equitable, inclusive, and vibrant Downtown Kansas City. It was gratifying to see the voters agree with our selections and maintain a strong Kansas City Caucus.”
The Downtown PAC endorsed candidates in 18 Missouri House and three Senate races. Ten of the endorsements were for Republican candidates, and 11 were for Democrats. See below for a complete list of the 21 victorious candidates.
A separate organization from the Downtown Council, the Downtown PAC functions as an unincorporated association that is independent of any political party, candidate, or organization. It serves to promote issues of importance to Downtown Kansas City and its members through their financial participation in the electoral process in the City of Kansas City and State of Missouri.
“The success of the Downtown PAC has been instrumental in much of Downtown’s progress in recent years,” Riffel said. “We need to speak with a common and collective voice as the Downtown PAC works to advance the candidates and issues that contribute to shaping a stronger, better, more resilient Downtown Kansas City.”
Riffel issued a call for Downtown advocates to consider joining the Downtown PAC in order to prepare for the City Council and Mayoral elections on April 4, 2023.
“There has never been a more important time for you to take an active role in imagining and creating the future of Downtown Kansas City,” Riffel said. “This is our opportunity to inform and educate candidates about the priorities for Downtown that are spelled out in the Imagine Downtown KC 2030 Strategic Plan.”
