Celebrate All Things Downtown This Week
By Jared Campbell, Resident Engagement Project Manager at Downtown Council of Kansas City
We are so excited to have you join us later this week as we celebrate all things Downtown KC!
First, we will gather Thursday evening in the south lobby of the Grand Ballroom at Bartle Hall for the Urban Hero Awards Reception. This event, from 5pm to 7pm, will recognize five outstanding individuals and small businesses who are passionate about making Downtown Kansas City a more vibrant place to live, work, and play.
The winners are:
- Jaynell “KK” Assman – Founder and Executive Director of Care Beyond the Boulevard
- Made Mobb – Community focused small business
- Kristin Riott – Former Executive Director of Bridging the Gap
- Chris Sally – Owner of Iconic Development and community advocate
- Octavio “Chato” Villalobos – KCPD Officer with the Westside CAN Center
Friday is the 2025 Downtown Council’s Annual Luncheon.
Plan on getting to the Grand Ballroom at 11am to enjoy an hour of networking and visiting the booths at the Spirit of Downtown Exhibition Fair. Walk, bike, scooter, or take the KC Streetcar; if you need to drive, the closest parking garage is the Arts District Garage with an entrance on Wyandotte between 16th and 17th.
The 2025 Annual Luncheon will start at 12pm. Downtown Council Board Chair Gib Kerr will offer opening remarks. Be sure you are in your seats for the start of the program because there will be a special announcement connected to the exciting South Loop Project! We are also thrilled to bring Mallory Brown to Kansas City as our keynote speaker. She will share stories of how she has connected with individuals and communities across the globe and how we can do the same in our neighborhoods.
See you later this week!
