Buck O’Neil Bridge work to reduce I-70 to ONE LANE in each direction on Tuesday
Crews with the Buck O’Neil Bridge project will CLOSE the right lane of both eastbound and westbound Interstate 70 at Broadway Blvd. beginning at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, for approximately 40 days, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.
This closure is for pavement widening work and will REDUCE I-70 to ONE LANE in each direction. This work will cause impacts to traffic. Motorists are advised to plan ahead, leave early, or consider alternate routes if possible. There will also be the following traffic changes listed below: (All work is weather permitting.)
Tuesday, July 11
- Beginning at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11:
- Crews will close the right lane of eastbound I-70 AND westbound I-70 at Broadway Blvd. for approximately 40 days for pavement widening work.
- Beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11:
- Crews will close the left lane of northbound U.S. 169 over the Missouri River until approximately 3:30 p.m. for bridge work.
Wednesday, July 12
- Crews will close Woodswether Rd. at Broadway Blvd. beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, until approximately 4 p.m. for bridge work.
- Beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, crews will close the left lane of northbound U.S. 169 over the Missouri River until approximately 3:30 p.m. for bridge work.
Thursday, July 13
- Crews will close Woodswether Rd. at Broadway Blvd. beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, until approximately 4 p.m. for bridge work.
- Beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, crews will close the left lane of northbound U.S. 169 over the Missouri River until approximately 3:30 p.m. for bridge work.
Friday, July 14
- Crews will close Woodswether Rd. at Broadway Blvd. beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, until approximately 4 p.m. for bridge work.
The current Buck O’Neil Memorial Bridge is a triple arch bridge carrying U.S. Route 169 over the Missouri River, and serves as a key regional connection between Downtown Kansas City and communities north of the river. While safe, the bridge is nearing the end of its projected service life.
Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching, or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
