A Message of Thanks from the Downtown Council

By Jared Campbell, Resident Engagement Project Manager at Downtown Council of Kansas City

With the Thanksgiving holiday upon us, the staff at the Downtown Council would like to use this week’s post to express thanks to the downtown community.

Members and Board of Directors of the Downtown Council

First, we would like to thank the members and Board of Directors of the Downtown Council for their support of the organization. It would not be possible to work towards our mission without the support of the membership and the volunteer hours provided by our officers, board of directors, committee members, and committee chairs. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Kimberly Beatty, Chancellor of the Metropolitan Community College, for her leadership and service this past year as board chair.

Downtown and River Market Community Improvement Districts

A huge thank you is also in order for the staff of the Downtown and River Market Community Improvement Districts. The men and women who serve as CID Ambassadors work outside year round to help keep the Central Business District and River Market clean, safe, and attractive. The CID Ambassadors have been a cornerstone of Downtown KC’s transformation. We would not be where we are today without the tireless efforts of these individuals. Picking up trash, removing graffiti, giving directions, and answering calls for service all happen on a normal day for these individuals. Thank you for doing your part as our front-line workers to make downtown a better place.

Those who live, work and play in Downtown KC

We would also like to say thank you to those who live, work and play in Downtown KC. From the 32,000 (and growing) residents who call downtown home, to the 125,000 employees, and the millions who visit each year, thank you for being a part of our community. Each of you help make downtow a more vibrant place to be by supporting our restaurants, retailers, museums, attractions, theaters, sporting events, etc. Our downtown is as vibrant and exciting as it is because of all of you.

Great Progress in 2024

We know there will always be challenges to work on, but overall, it was another exciting year for Downtown Kansas City. We are grateful that catalytic projects such as the South Loop, Barney Allis Plaza, and the Greenline made advancements this past year. Programs like Launch KC and the Downtown KC PAC welcomed new entrepreneurs and elected officials to the downtown landscape. Downtown is our community and we are thankful for the opportunity to work to make it better each day.

We wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
