State of Downtown to illuminate plans for $800MM riverfront development

The Kansas City Current, in collaboration with Palmer Square Capital Management, Marquee Development, and Port KC, unveiled plans in April for the next phase of its transformational development on the Missouri Riverfront in Downtown Kansas City. The project is due to break ground at the end of 2024, targeting a 2026 completion date.

The latest chapter in the evolution of Downtown Kansas City – the planned $800 million+ mixed-use district at Berkley Riverfront – will take center stage at the Downtown Council’s newest event, State of Downtown, on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

The event will celebrate Downtown’s transformation from a single-use office district into a dynamic, mixed-use neighborhood animated by residents, visitors, and employees. The program will feature the latest data illustrating Downtown’s growth and recovery from the pandemic, as well as showcase the Downtown vibe through local art, live music, and more.

The State of Downtown will unfold at the all-new Origin Hotel Kansas City at Berkley Riverfront. The 118-room boutique hotel was built by Centric Construction Group, the presenting sponsor of the State of Downtown event.

“Being part of projects like the Origin Hotel, the nearby Two Birds One Stone beer garden, and the new Berkley Volleyball Courts embodies why we exist: to build cool places to live, work, and play,” said Tyler Harrelson, Centric’s vice president of business development. “These initiatives align perfectly with our values, our partnerships, and our commitment to the community we call home.”

The inaugural State of Downtown features a slate of expert panelists who will examine plans for the $800 million+ riverfront development by Marquee Development and Palmer Square Capital Management. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year.

  • Scott McCubbrey, Managing Director, Marquee Development, Chicago

“When we reflect on our company’s goals, we measure success by our impact on the community,” said Centric’s Harrelson. “The impact these projects have had—and will continue to have—is profound.
