‘Stay home’ order takes effect in KC

“Stay at Home” is the new normal in Kansas City beginning today.

Mayor Quinton Lucas issued the order, which began at 12:01 am today and continues to 11:59 pm on April 24.

The “Stay at Home” Order requires Kansas Citians to stay at home except for “essential activities” as our community continues working to slow the spread of COVID-19. Grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, and healthcare facilities will remain open.

CID Ambassadors will remain on duty in the Central Business District and River Market as they work to keep Downtown clean and safe.

“Our main objective is to keep the people who are riding public transportation system safe,” said Santos Ramirez, CID operations director.

“While waiting for the Metro or Streetcar, people can spread germs by touching the shelter, grab bars and informational kiosk. We will be spraying a non-toxic disinfectant on shelters, stops and kiosks until the stay-at-home order expires.”

“We want the CID team to be a part of the fight against COVID-19, while helping to keep our Downtown and River Market family safe,” Ramirez said.

Downtown Council members and stakeholders have the opportunity today (3/24) to express your opinions about an ordinance that will come before the City Council tomorrow (3/25).

Even in the face of COVID-19, work goes on in our City, our businesses and the lives of Kansas Citians. That is why this story is so timely today.

At 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Ordinance No. 200225 is up for discussion by the Finance, Governance and Public Safety Committee of the City Council. The ordinance requests a small appropriation of funds to continue the project through July 2020.
