Union Station begins centennial in HD splendor
Thousands turned out on a rainy Friday evening for the public celebration of Union Station’s 100th birthday.
Among the great attractions that night — including the country concert by Logan Mize, the Kansas City Chief’s Red Friday rally and the amazing fireworks — our favorite was the amazing digital show, “The Monument Comes Alive.”
“The Monument Comes Alive” is a 10-minute, high-def, animated musical journey through 100 years of Union Station history — from the Golden Age of Railroads through the rebirth of this Kansas City monument. To view this remarkable video, click here.
Using state of the art projection mapping and twelve 20K digital projectors, the exterior of the Station was transformed into an enormous 3D digital canvas that soared 10 stories tall and one city block wide. Presented by Ivy Funds, Waddell and Reed, and the National World War I Museum, the digitally animated scrapbook was set to an original musical score.
Kansas City’s QUIXOTIC — the internationally recognized, multi-media performing arts group — in partnership with BAZILLION PICTURES and BIC MEDIA, created this electrifying digital show that captures 100 years of Kansas City history.
Union Station’s centennial celebration continues through early November with a series of special events. To keep your calendar current, follow the Station’s centennial site.
